painting

I bought a graphic tablet a few years back, and I quite enjoy doing digital paintings, since regular painting is very messy and quite expensive, it means digitally i can just jump on and relax every now and then. Ill upload some every now and then. Heres one i did a while back of a girl smoking.

bistro logo yo

This is the logo I decided on after trying different styles, fonts and colour schemes.

Saturday, 10 March 2012

I started sketching some ideas out for the logo. Since the name is a play on the name ‘Eton Mess’ I sketched some ideas based on the messy look of the dessert. At first I drew a circle that was seperated into random segments. I then made the bottom 2/3’s of the logo without the fractures, which gave a better result. Once I’d traced the logo into illustrator, I later deicded against the bulk of the idea and settled on the minimalistic approach and just left the strawberry.

The comming of Eat and Mess

One day whilst at a restaurant with some friends I came across a desert called a Eton mess .

'Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of strawberries, pieces of meringue and cream, which is traditionally served at Eton College's annual cricket game against the students of Winchester College.[1] The dish has been known by this name since the 19th century.’

I had no idea what it was, but I liked the name. I stood out.
So I went with the name ‘Eat & Mess’, which is a play on the words Eton Mess. An Eton mess is a dessert thats associated with a prestigous school in England. By calling it Eat & Mess, Im still keeping that connection to schools, whilst giving it an original twist.

Bistro Research

I had played around with a few different names for the bistro brief. One name i almost went with was the soup kitchen.

I decided I didn't like this design at all and scrapped it.
